Do you have what it takes to be a FALCON? Memorial students are ensuring their school is No Place for Hate, kicking off their pledge the week of February 3rd with assemblies and grade-specific promo videos. We especially thank the FLHS NP4H team for stopping by to share the importance of this program with our middle schoolers and to Ms. Nizza & Ms. Zarwi for getting it off the ground and running. Learn more about MMS’ pledge in this video.
FLHS “No Place for Hate” Pledge
As Fair Lawn High School continues its partnership as a No Place for Hate school, student leaders shared some powerful words in a short video to explain the importance of signing a pledge to “Be a CUTTER.” Keep an eye on our social media accounts Friday to watch the video and learn more about this school-wide initiative.
International Holocaust Remembrance Day
In honor of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, students of the FLHS Jewish Student Union produced a video and discussion questions that were presented in all Social Studies classes. Highlighting the theme of resistance, the video chronicled the actions of groups that resisted the Nazi regime, such as Kashariyot, Jewish women who smuggled information and supplies into ghettos; Partisans, armed fighters who conducted guerrilla warfare against the German army; and the “White Rose,” university students who published and distributed pamphlets critical of the government.
Social Studies teachers and the JSU advisor facilitated discussions on bravery and how it manifests itself in many ways. The final words of the video were, “Stand up to hate wherever you find it. Because when we rise above division to build a better future… ‘Never Again’ starts with us.”
Special thanks to Rabbi Reuven Lebovitz, NJ JSU Director, for his constant support of FLHS JSU and Rabbi Derek Gormin, Managing Director and Founding Dean of JSU Global Campus, for visiting FLHS on this special day.
Lunar New Year Celebrations
We’ve had a wonderful time honoring and celebrating the traditions of Lunar New Year across the district over the last few weeks. Students at FLHS, Radburn, and Lyncrest have all embraced The Year of the Snake – shedding the negative and sliding gracefully into new beginnings – with fun, interactive assemblies and activities at each school.
Milnes Wraps Up Winter Concert Season
Tying a big, red bow on a jam-packed two months of musical magic, Milnes students wowed the crowd on February 7 – the last winter concert of the 24-25 season. Parents and loved ones were treated to an illuminating light show, popular tunes, and several beginner recorder pieces. We thank Ms. Melanie Lota for all the prep that went into making our young musicians look & sound great!
