Recognizing Leaders Demonstrating Bold Vision, Steadfast Leadership, and Transformational Community Impact

FAIR LAWN, NJ (JANUARY 8, 2026) – Dr. Rui Dionisio, Superintendent of Fair Lawn Public Schools, has been named National Leader of Distinction at the 2026 Awards of Distinction program, announced at the District Administration Leadership Institute (DALI) National Superintendents Summit.

“This recognition belongs to the Fair Lawn Public Schools community—our Board of Education, educators, families, and students—who show up for our schools every day,” said Dr. Dionisio. “Leadership begins with listening, grows through learning, and succeeds when we move forward together. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve.”

The 2026 Awards of Distinction program recognizes education leaders and initiatives driving meaningful progress across multiple categories. The Leaders of Distinction award honors individuals inspiring educational excellence and fostering collaboration within their school communities.

Rui Dionisio is being honored for his strategic vision, authentic communication style, and ability to bring communities together in support of student success. He created Fair Lawn’s Community Leadership Council, turning a moment of community challenge into a model for meaningful collaboration.

Dr. Dionisio brings a proven record of school improvement. Throughout his career, he has developed and led three district-wide strategic plans, delivered $85 million in capital improvement projects, and expanded learning opportunities for students of all abilities, including enhanced special education programming and advanced coursework options. In his previous district, he elevated rankings from #94 to #24 statewide, earning recognition as a National District of Distinction for whole-child education, and being named AASA Superintendent of the Year (Essex).

A frequent presenter at state and national conferences and a recognized thought leader in educational leadership, Dr. Dionisio’s philosophy is straightforward: listen first, learn second, lead third.

The District Administration Awards of Distinction program offers a national platform to highlight excellence and innovation in K-12 education. Over 11 years, it has consistently showcased pioneering programs from all 50 states, acting as a national repository for replicable K-12 success stories.

“The superintendency is evolving beyond operational management to encompass civic stewardship,” said Amy Dujon, Vice President of Education for Community EDU. “Our award winners embody a new model of leadership—one that unites vision, trust, and community engagement to build resilient, future-focused school systems.”

The 2025 National Superintendents Summit convened approximately 100 superintendents from December 17 to 19, 2025.
